Paris Photoshoot by Night: A Magical Evening in the City of Lights
In early February, I had the joy of photographing an adorable couple who were just a few weeks away from tying the knot. For their prewedding shoot, they dreamed of something a bit out of the ordinary. They didn’t want the classic early morning Parisian shoot with soft, golden light. No, they wanted something bold, something daring—a Paris photoshoot by night! As a Paris wedding photographer, this was an exciting challenge, since it was my very first nighttime session. I knew I’d have to switch up my usual approach and rely heavily on creative lighting techniques, using both flash and LED panels to bring the city’s nighttime magic to life. And the best part? The results were beyond anything I could have imagined!

Most of the photos from this session ended up being in black and white, and that was a deliberate choice. Nighttime in Paris is beautiful, but the city lights often cast a warm orange glow that isn’t always flattering. Black and white helps to tone that down, creating images with a timeless, elegant feel. It adds a glamorous, cinematic quality to the photos—something that fits perfectly with the romance of Paris by night.

This couple, who live in India, aren’t used to chilly temperatures—so you can imagine their surprise when they arrived for the shoot on a crisp February evening with the thermometer barely reaching 3°C. For them, this was practically freezing! Despite the cold, they were absolute troopers. Their excitement about being in Paris and capturing these special moments kept them smiling and warm(ish) throughout the session. C., in her stunning black evening gown, looked effortlessly glamorous, braving the frosty air with grace and elegance. Honestly, hats off to her—it’s no small feat to look radiant while battling winter chills!

From a photographer’s perspective, this Paris photoshoot by night was a thrilling opportunity to push my creative boundaries. I was especially excited to experiment with different techniques, including some flash blur effects that added a dynamic sense of movement to the photos. This technique, where a flash captures the subject clearly while the background remains slightly blurred, created a modern, edgy vibe. It was such a fun way to enhance the energy of the session and give the images a contemporary, artistic feel. Playing with lighting and angles at night gave me a whole new appreciation for how Paris transforms after dark—it’s truly mesmerizing.

In just one hour, we managed to cover some iconic Parisian spots. We wandered through charming cobbled streets, paused for romantic shots outside cozy cafés, and marveled at the elegant columns near the Palais Royal. From there, we made our way to the Louvre, where we admired the pyramid glowing against the night sky, with the Eiffel Tower twinkling in the distance. We wrapped up the session with a stroll along the Seine, soaking in the timeless romance of the river at night. It was a whirlwind of beauty, laughter, and love—a perfect reflection of what makes Paris photoshoots by night so unforgettable.
