Lavender Field Prewedding Photoshoot in South of France
At the beginning of summer, I had the pleasure of photographing a stunning Parisian couple who wanted to capture their prewedding in the breathtaking lavender fields of the South of France. The talented wedding planner Candice from Quinze Heures Quinze masterfully organized this enchanting photoshoot in a field of vibrant lavenders. In France, lavender blooms for just three weeks between late June and early July, making it essential to seize this brief but magical window. A lavender field prewedding photoshoot is a rare and precious opportunity—a perfect way to celebrate love amidst nature’s beauty.
Lavender fields are typically exposed to full sun, with few trees to provide shade. This makes the golden hour—the time around sunset—the best moment for a prewedding photoshoot. We were fortunate to have a spectacular sunset on June 24, one of the longest days of the year. The golden light bathed the lavender fields in a dreamy glow, creating a romantic, quintessentially French atmosphere. As a wedding photographer with a background in fine art photography, I was thrilled to work with the unique backlighting of the South of France. The future bride’s glamorous evening gown added an elegant touch to the session, and her flowing veil became a key element in crafting ethereal, timeless images.
Earlier in the session, before the sun began to set, we captured a completely different mood. The bride-to-be wore a lighter, more airy gown that complemented the daytime atmosphere. We played with styling elements, including a lace parasol for shadow play and a wide-brimmed hat that evoked the chic, vacation vibes of the South of France. These details gave the session a sophisticated and fashionable edge, perfect for capturing the essence of a lavender prewedding photoshoot.
No lavender field photoshoot would be complete without a picnic scene. Candice from Quinze Heures Quinze curated a delightful “Frenchie” setup with a picnic blanket, artisanal French cheese, a baguette, fresh fruits, and, of course, champagne. This rustic yet chic arrangement added a quintessentially French touch to the photos, creating an atmosphere of countryside charm and refined elegance.
Although this was not my first time photographing in lavender fields, it was the first time I had such ideal lighting conditions. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to capture such a beautiful lavender prewedding photoshoot. My heartfelt thanks go to the incredible team who made this project possible and to the wonderful couple who entrusted me with their precious memories.
